Zandvoort 18th & 19th June '05

Double Header

Ferrari formula classic Zandvoort Rounds 4 & 5

I especially liked the double header race meetings, it does make the day go very quickly and also reduces costs, I don't think I'm alone in thinking Zandvoort was the highlight of the season, not just for the experience of driving on such a superb track, but, in addition to its friendliness, it has a holiday atmosphere about it, must be because it's on the coast.

My only criticism was the lack of diversion signs - we were confidant on our route from the ferry to the circuit, when, without warning the road was closed due to an enormous pipe being laid across our highway, and no signs to guide us on our way. Zandvoort's two races and lots of time on track with time to socialise made it the best.

Race 1- the weather was really HOT with shade temperatures in the mid 30's and track temps close to 50 and being the only Gp1 competitor my goal was to do my best and improve on my position and time.

I did have a good start and a fairly uneventful race however I did get ahead of Ray in his 512TR and more importantly improved by a massive 7.3 seconds, which was still a whole second slower than my best time in race 2 which established the Zandvoort lap record.

In race 2 it was particularly pleased putting in 5 laps within a few tenths of my best lap.

Coming away with two Gp1 wins and a lap record was my idea of a really good time.
