The Ferrari
F50 is often compared to the F40. They are quite different
cars. The
F40 is a twin turbo machine with little in the way of
a monococque. The
F50, however is a non turbo car with a progressive punch
from 4000 rpm upwards. It gives the impression that it
is less powerful than the F40,
it's not. The
chassis does cope with the power well, and ultimately
the car is easier to drive. Neither car is easy in wet
conditions. One of the nicest Ferraris in the wet is the
288GTO but that's another storey. I
was lucky enough to drive this particular F50 at Oulton,
Donington & Silverstone,
my thanks go to Ian Heatherington
who has since raced the car in the Maranello Challenge.
